The World according to Élan. His comments about life, culture and civilization here on Earth…

Liberty

I’m afraid Liberty has been reduced to meaninglessness. The key is Power Of Choice. That’s Freedom. I pick the phone I want, the skateboard I want etc. Some government Authority or person doesn’t tell me. The bigger the government or the more socialism, the less Freedom you have.

Guns

The 2nd Amendment gives us the right to have firearms. We don’t have to have or be members of a militia. These firearms can be used in lawful self-defense purposes in the home and otherwise. Guns don’t kill; people do.

More Free Press

Free Press = Informative, entertaining, investigative, integrity, accurate, not self serving, transparent, trustworthy, enlightening, communicative, dependable. What is it with today’s “Press”? #PowerOfChoice

Journalism

Journalism is not easy, but it’s not rocket science. Study. Investigate. Find facts. Verify. Report. Be honest and transparent. It only gets distorted and complicated if there is a bias or self interest involved. Opinions are OK, too. Just label them as such. #PowerOfChoice

Tax & Spend

To solve the deficit problem, you would have to raise taxes by 25% or lower expenditures by 20%. Since the majority of expenditures are mandatory, that means even higher taxes and certainly increased expenditure reduction.

Does NOTHING about the Debt. Can’t get there from here? #PowerOfChoice #SpendMore?

Golden Rule

Whatever they do to them, they can turn around and do it to you. If you let them convict someone without proof, then they can do the same thing to you. If you always use this as a guideline, you might decide differently.

Why Rules?

With just one person, no need for rules, laws, civics, culture, society. Not necessary. But, two people or more; we need rules, laws, customs, infractions, felonies, misdemeanors, regulations, commandments, expectations, decrees, pardons, contracts, violations. #PowerOfChoice

Survival

On way to teach civics is to start with the proverbial group of boys stranded on a lost island (Lord Of The Flies). They form two groups and eventually agree on mutual protection of property and self, defense, food acquisition and other things that provide survival. It’s not hard to figure out. #PowerOfChoice

Government

Some Departments of the US Government are not created by the Constitution. They exist only to provide a thing or service that is specifically called for or imagined or mentioned in the Constitution. Some Departments are just habit and have outlived their usefulness. Maybe we should just get rid of them. #PowerOfChoice #SpendMoney

Religion

It says Freedom of Religion, not Freedom FROM Religion. Same thing it said over 200 years ago. Anyone who doesn’t understand this one can’t read or comprehend. Or has some vested interest in getting you to believe otherwise.

Term Limits

Term Limits for Politicians and JUDGES is like carpet. You can vacuum it daily, shampoo it occasionally, but you need to replace it eventually, especially in high traffic areas.

Get some new ideas in there - prevent self-enrichment. Promote honesty and transparency.

Zero Sum

Most things in life are not Zero-Sum. There is one that is Zero-Sum; Government and Freedom. Want more Freedom, reduce Government. Want more Government, reduce Freedom. It’s black and white, academic, axiomatic .#PowerOfChoice

Justice System

The Justice System. As framed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, it protects the innocent and administers justice to criminals.

It’s been turned on it’s head. Criminals go free and innocent people are convicted by accusation, alone.

Time to reset. #PowerOfChoice

Enumeration

Some Rights may not be mentioned in the Constitution, but implied, inferred by somebody or adjudicated by a court. Some rights are not enumerated (written specifically) in the Constitution, so would be relegated to the States or the People. ‘s how it works. #PowerOfChoice

Union

There was much discussion and debate about States going it alone or having a United States (Union) back in 1776. I guess USA won. It was decided the states would fare better if they all stuck together. Obviously, still applies. #PowerOfChoice

Rights

The Constitution only addresses a few rights - life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. There is further definition in the Bill of Rights. Most of the “rights” we talk about today are not enshrined in the Constitution and aren’t really Rights. We’ve been fooled. #PowerOfChoice

Religious Liberty

The Framers were concerned with religious as well as civic liberty. We tend to think only of civic liberty. Actually, you can’t have one without the other. Denying just one person religious liberty costs all of us our civic liberties. Slavery or Freedom. Pick one. #PowerOfChoice

Right to Life

Life. It includes the right to one’s own life which includes all of the rights listed in the Constitution as well as not being illegitimately incarcerated, kidnaped or abducted - physically or mentally. It includes freedom of religion. #PowerOfChoice

Attention

People who do and act to get attention are usually causing or contributing to the problem, not solving it. People who are solving problems don’t usually want attention.

If you can’t tell which side they’re on, look to see if they’re trying to get attention. #PowerOfChoice

Fair Exchange

Fair Exchange. The give and get are approximately equal. You can still have charity, philanthropy and welfare, but you should have to work or pay for what you get. Free stuff is not really free. Someone had to work or pay for it. #PowerOfChoice

Right vs Left

In a simplistic way, Left thinking is pro the majority, even if it tramples on minority rights. The Right is for republicanism which protects the rights of the majority AND the minority. Otherwise, their fundamentals are the same, modern day noise notwithstanding. #PowerOfChoice

Liberal Education

Liberal Education has been around for centuries. It is simply is an education not aimed at a specific trade or discipline. Instead, it’s aimed at general life and how to observe and think. Today, it’s just indoctrination. No observation, discussion, debate, logic. #PowerOfChoice

Self Determinism

If you’re getting a “Liberal Education” and you’re not being taught to observe, discuss, debate, get along and make your own conclusions, you’re being screwed. If you’re being told what to think, do and say, then you’re a pawn in the system. No self determinism #PowerOfChoice

Survival

Without going into the whys and wherefores, society, culture, laws and customs are based on agreement and then what is best for all concerned. While some laws seem arbitrary or unnecessarily bureaucratic, they are there because it helps survival. #PowerOfChoice

Media

To start, voting, demonstrations, town hall meetings, press and petitions were all vehicles for demanding redress. Later, we added fax, phone, PR, Internet and email. Now, we have Social Media. The Media is no longer unbiased. We need to do more of above. Time to yell! #PowerOfChoice

Tyranny of the Minority

Democrats = 31%, Republicans = 29%, Independents = 40%. No one has a real majority, but the Dems took the House. You would think they are in the majority. But, no. It’s a classic case of Tyranny of the Minority. Not a real majority, but appears and acts like one. #PowerOfChoice

Majority Rule - Minority Rights. What the majority wants without infringing on the minority. The left needs to read and study this concept. Thoroughly. Right now, we get what the minority wants even if it infringes on the majority. Upside down. #PowerOfChoice

Natter

People who natter a lot (look at what a victim I am), are usually doing exactly what they are accusing others of doing. We’re not used to that socially, but it works out really well in life. Explains a few things. Good way to evaluate someone. #PowerOfChoice

King George III

King George III was taxing the crap out of us without representation. He required that we board British Soldiers in OUR homes. He made the Church of England the only church. All long distance from England. No wonder the Bill of Rights was written the way it was. #PowerOfChoice

Simple Math

Federal math is really simple. We take in 4 trillion, spend 5 trillion and have a deficit of 1 which we add to the debt. Anybody who says, for any reason, that is OK is telling you it’s OK to play on the freeway or play with loaded guns. Stupid. It doesn’t work. #PowerOfChoice

Slavery

The essence of Freedom is Power Of Choice. I can say what I want. Worship who or what I want. Be what I want. Go where I want. Do what I want. Have the things I want. No Power Of Choice- no Freedom - Slavery - Big Government. Your choice. #PowerOfChoice
